purpGift baskets are a delightful way to surprise a family member or friend on any occasion, and also simple to make by yourself. To get started with your homemade gift basket, choose a theme. For the sake of this example, let’s say we’re making a fall gift basket. Fall gift baskets often contain things like candies, autumn coffee blends, pumpkins and gourds, fine wines, cheese, and kettle corn. You can put in pretty much anything that falls under an autumn or thanksgiving theme; the choice is yours.

Once you have your items together, you will want to arrange them in a manner in which all the items are visible from the front of the basket.  Put taller, heavier items in first, then display the other items against them or in front of them.  You can stuff the basket with straw, or silk leaves to make it look more authentic, and act as a buffer in between the items.  Viola~!  You have a beautiful fall basket all made at home.

Gift Baskets: Always Welcome

gift-basketThere is no bad time to send or receive a gift basket. People love to send them, and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love to receive one. Why? Well, gift baskets fit everyone, for one thing, which means they never have to be returned to the store. They are a great deal of fun to receive, because they contain so many little goodies that are fun to share-there is always something for everyone. Because of this, they are one of those rare group gifts that are appropriate for a business or a family. Treats are welcome any time of the year. Even the most jaded food lover will get a twinkle when they see the basket of goodies appear, no matter when it shows up on their doorstep.

The only downside to gift baskets is the astronomical markup on all of the contents. You can easily remedy this problem by purchasing an empty basket and purchasing your own products to create completely personalized gift baskets.

Surprise Your Spouse with a ‘Just Because’ Gift

giftbasketAfter a while, even the strongest marriages can lapse into a dutiful routine. The lively spark that can only be sustained through spontaneity begins to diminish, and husband and wife settle into life as usual. Fortunately there are ways to shake things up and restore some much needed marital bliss. The answer is as simple as giving and receiving a personalized gift basket.

The key is to present the basket at a time when your spouse least expects it. The “just because” gift is especially effective when it’s given as a surprise. Partners expect to receive gifts for Christmas, birthdays and a few other select holidays, but these perfunctory offerings just aren’t as special. Don’t be afraid to live a little and spice things up for the good of your marriage.

homemade-gift-basketsGift baskets are great presents for your friends, loved ones and new acquaintances. Designing a gift basket can be as personal or impersonal as you want based on how well you know who the recipient. Buying a basket is also as easy as going on to a website and finding which one suits your gift-giving needs, but many pre-packed options severely mark up their prices.

Instead of getting taxed by a professional company, why not opt for homemade gift baskets? Not only will this option save you money, but you will also be able to pick out more personalized items. With the myriad of options, a gift basket is a perfect gift for the different types of folks you’ll come across in your life.

Custom Gift Baskets

giftPresents become more special when they are personally hand-picked by the giver.  They become even more meaningful when the benefactor himself wraps and delivers the package. Custom gift baskets are wonderful to give to family and friends with different interests and pursuits.  They bear a personal message and an intimate touch as the giver decides what to put in the specially-assembled packs.

You can send one of these to a close friend and her family.  If the recipients are avid readers, for example, pick a book for each family member then arrange the volumes neatly in your basket.  Wrap and decorate with colorful paper or fabric then include a heartfelt message for the occasion.  Send the gift basket on time for the festivities or special event.  Aside from books, custom gift baskets may also contain assorted toys, CDs and DVDs, food items, clothing, and sports gear.  Be creative in your choices and always opt for things that potential recipients can use, enjoy or appreciate.

You can find a variety of broadly themed baskets on the internet that make ideal gifts. If you know little about the person you are buying for, try getting a sampler basket. They have a wide range of general products that are sure to please virtually everyone.

Care Package for a College Student

custom-giftMy daughter went away to college about a month ago, and since then my husband and I have missed her dearly. It’s only natural to experience some form of empty nest syndrome, and the pain is lessened somewhat by regular phone calls. It sounds as if she’s making a successful transition by staying on top of her studies while making plenty of new friends.

Last week it occurred to me that we should send her a care package just to show her that she’s always in our thoughts. Knowing that she loves to take luxurious baths whenever possible, I went online and created a custom gift basket chock full of handmade soaps, bath fizzies and moisturizers. With any luck, she’ll have enough time to enjoy its contents between classes and her other priorities.

Last-Minute Gift Idea

bubble-bathAfter 10 years of marriage, I guess I know my wife’s passions and interests pretty well. I routinely use this knowledge to come up with unique gift ideas every time a holiday rolls around. For instance, I took her for a romantic weekend in the California wine country for our last anniversary. There’s no way I would have thought to book the trip if I didn’t remember her intense interest in wineries.

For whatever reason, her birthday threw me for a bit of a loop this year. It wasn’t until the last moment that I finally stumbled upon a bath gift basket online. In the past I’ve been annoyed at how much time my wife spends in the tub, luxuriating in the soapy warmth of a bubble bath. But that information came in especially handy when I needed it most. She was thrilled to receive a basket loaded with balms, gels and pleasing fragrances.
