Soothing Eczema

If you suffer from chronic eczema chances are you’ve spent a lot of money on lotions, soaps, and shampoos which all claim to cure dry skin. Most of the time those products have many ingredients that are harmful to your skin, in addition to being harmful to your finances. Thankfully, there are organic alternatives that are much less expensive than the over-the-counter medicated soaps and shampoos you’ve been using. Goat milk soap is one such example.

Goat’s milk has several healthful properties such as alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA). AHA is a skin exfoliate that removes dead skin cells, allowing new skin cells to come through. Goat milk soap utilizes glycerin in its production. Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it helps your skin retain moisture. Moisturizing, of course, being the most important measure an eczema sufferer should complete every day. Stop wasting your money on products that don’t work and make the switch to goat milk soap for dry skin relief!

Moisturize While Cleansing

tn_soapmixedSkiing is a big part of life in Colorado, where my friend recently moved. He has really gotten into snow sports in his first winter in Boulder. Unfortunately, he has been suffering from dry, cracked skin from being out so often in the winter air. Not all moisturizers are created equally, as he soon learned.

I recommended that he start using products that use shea butter. Shea butter is a complex fat that melts at body temperature and is rapidly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. I bought him some homemade shea butter soap that I use. It cleanses and moisturizes the skin at the same time. I also sent him a container of shea butter he can keep at his office to moisturize his red, cracked hands. He called and said that the shea butter has been working wonders and he is much more comfortable in his skin.

No More Gift Cards

gift_basketAfter the holiday season, businesses evaluate what products were the best sellers so they can tailor their stock for the next holiday season. I read recently, that gift cards dropped significantly in popularity this past Christmas. Really, it’s no surprise. Gift cards tell a person that you either waited until the last minute to buy a gift or didn’t care enough to think about what they might like to receive.

I’m not knocking gift cards entirely; they’re nice to have on hand for those surprise guests that tend to come out of the woodwork just in time for gift giving. A gift that is custom made is the epitome of thoughtfulness that really makes a person feel loved. This past Christmas I gave my nieces custom gift baskets. I filled each basket with little samplers of beauty products, hair ties, books, and treats according to each girls’ tastes. They were extremely happy with their gifts and have already sent me the most gracious hand-written thank you cards.

Once our holiday shopping is complete many of us realize too late that we didn’t buy anything that can go in a stocking. If you’re anything like me then this has probably happened to you more than once. It’s frustrating and discouraging to think we’re all done with our shopping only to have to head back out and do it all over again. Some people have told me to use a list but I tell them no, it’ll never happen to me again. Then it does. Go figure.

Body spray is a popular gift for the holiday season. Helping someone start the new year off with a new fragrance is a great way to help them on the way to a healthier and happier life. The size makes it perfect for the stocking and the pricing is usually very affordable. And the best part is you can get it online, eliminating the need to return to the mall and face the hostile gang of interlopers known as holiday shoppers.

Tell Your Mother How You Really Feel

fizziesParticularly for men, it can be difficult to find appropriate gifts for your mother. Unless you have a significant other to help you pick something out, most people resort to a simple card, flowers or maybe a gift certificate. Sometimes, however, the best gifts are the simple ones (and maybe an extra special gift packed with it).

I would recommend getting something like a frame that has a great picture of you and your mother; maybe a photo frame that has a great poem or inspirational words about her parenting.  Also adding a little something like a set of relaxing bath fizzies would let you know that not only do you appreciate her emotionally, but that you want the ultimate comfort for her. Even if you don’t get her favorite scent or choose something that doesn’t complement the décor, she’ll appreciate the thought.

Skin Care in Winter Months

winterskinDuring the winter skin can dry out and become cracked because of a lack of moisture in the air, and also because of the extreme cold. It’s important to keep your skin healthy to avoid itching, soreness, and even bleeding. For chapped lips, the natural choice is lip balm, but be sure you choose one made from all-natural ingredients. For dry, cracked skin in the palms and on the hands, a skin moisturizer like shea butter lotion works best. If your cheeks or face becomes chapped you can use sunscreen as a moisturizer. It’s also good to avoid using the heat too much in the car and at home as this will dry out your skin even faster.

If you put on moisturizer and lip balm regularly, you’ll find that you won’t need to do it throughout the winter, and that most of the negative skin conditions won’t manifest at all.

Making Your Own Gift Basket

purpGift baskets are a delightful way to surprise a family member or friend on any occasion, and also simple to make by yourself. To get started with your homemade gift basket, choose a theme. For the sake of this example, let’s say we’re making a fall gift basket. Fall gift baskets often contain things like candies, autumn coffee blends, pumpkins and gourds, fine wines, cheese, and kettle corn. You can put in pretty much anything that falls under an autumn or thanksgiving theme; the choice is yours.

Once you have your items together, you will want to arrange them in a manner in which all the items are visible from the front of the basket.  Put taller, heavier items in first, then display the other items against them or in front of them.  You can stuff the basket with straw, or silk leaves to make it look more authentic, and act as a buffer in between the items.  Viola~!  You have a beautiful fall basket all made at home.

Slaves To The Shave

showerFor almost a hundred years now women have been slaving away to keep their legs and underarms smooth. Around 1915 sleeveless dresses became popular and crafty merchants began what some historians call the “Great Underarm Campaign.” This campaign was meant to shame women into shaving their body hair. A photograph of a young woman in a popular women’s magazine featured the girl wearing a slip with her arms raised above her head revealing perfectly clear armpits.

Since this time, women around the world have shaved their armpits and legs. But before women’s shaving products were created, women were forced to use harsh men’s products. Women persevered cuts to their delicate skin and itchy rashes caused by using men’s razors until inventors came up with shower gel. Women who use shower gel for shaving will tell you that their plights to remain hair free have become a little less horrible.

Give Gifts in Natural Baskets

spaWe often give gifts to someone on a special occasion or just simply a token for something a person has done that we truly appreciate. Sometimes we run out of ideas on what to give especially when we do not know the person very well. Nowadays, we don’t just use wrappers.  In fact, we avoid using too much paper. We use containers such as boxes and baskets exposing the gift itself and putting some frills to make it pleasing to the eyes.  Examples of these are fruit baskets and flowers in baskets or vases. Nice gifts can come in natural gift baskets.

Natural gift baskets means having items usually organic and putting them in a nice basket. Spa gifts baskets will be brimming with soap, lotion, bath salts or even shampoo.  Food stuff can also be nice to put in a gourmet basket such us coffee, tea, cookies and other gourmet products. It is very safe to give out anything organic, as we are sure that people will really use and consume them. They are very healthy to the body and so with the environment.
