custom-gift-basketsEven the bravest soldiers get homesick. Whether it’s for the city, suburb or farm where they grew up, or for simple American foods unavailable abroad, like chili-dogs, meatloaf and homemade Thanksgiving dinner. Parents and spouses missing their soldiers are constantly thinking about ways to give their loved one a little piece of home.

Here are some good suggestions to let your troop experience a slice of home:

1.) Send him some custom gift baskets with hygiene products and favorite snacks, like M&Ms, pretzels, gummy bears, snack mix and more.
2.) Organize a family writing campaign. Sending cards, letters and email will let your loved one know everyone at home is thinking of them.
3.) Send them news and magazine clippings of events going on in their community.
4.) Don’t miss their calls. Soldiers say the best way to keep their spirits up is by talking to their loved ones. Get a call forwarding service if necessary.

body-wash-acneI have really sensitive skin and during the winter I am always looking for products that can provide me with some relief. Even though I apply moisturizing lotion every day I still suffer from itchy and dry skin. Recently I read somewhere that traditional soap was rife with harmful chemicals that can dry out your skin.

I bought some homemade body wash that was only made with natural ingredients, and it really seemed to work. I used it in the shower and immediately afterword I noticed my skin felt soft and smooth. After a few days of using it the patches of dry, red skin had disappeared. I also enjoy taking baths, so I think I will try some natural bath oil next.

sickEvery winter millions of Americans contract the “common cold.” This means suffering through uncomfortable symptoms and missing work. Those who suffer from the common cold are likely to experience three symptoms including nasal stuffiness, sneezing, and a runny nose, as well as resulting throat irritation. Fever is also common among infected infants, but not so much in adults. Once you have caught the common cold, symptoms usually begin within 1-5 days.

The first sign of a cold is a scratchy feeling in the throat, followed by sneezing and nasal discharge. By the third day, the nasal discharge becomes thicker and yellow or green in color. During this period a child may experience congested ear drums. In addition to the symptoms mentioned, the virus may also produce a headache, cough, postnasal drip, burning eyes, muscle aches, or a decreased appetite. Those dealing with a cold should drink large quantities of water and other fluids.

Most of us know how uncomfortable it can be to deal with a cold. For this reason it is always nice to send sufferers a homemade gift basket along with a nice card. Get well gifts are a cheerful reminder that you care about the sick person in your life.

giftPresents become more special when they are personally hand-picked by the giver.  They become even more meaningful when the benefactor himself wraps and delivers the package. Custom gift baskets are wonderful to give to family and friends with different interests and pursuits.  They bear a personal message and an intimate touch as the giver decides what to put in the specially-assembled packs.

You can send one of these to a close friend and her family.  If the recipients are avid readers, for example, pick a book for each family member then arrange the volumes neatly in your basket.  Wrap and decorate with colorful paper or fabric then include a heartfelt message for the occasion.  Send the gift basket on time for the festivities or special event.  Aside from books, custom gift baskets may also contain assorted toys, CDs and DVDs, food items, clothing, and sports gear.  Be creative in your choices and always opt for things that potential recipients can use, enjoy or appreciate.

soapMany of the household items that we use today are made from chemicals that may have harmful effects on our children and the environment. It is not healthy to use too many artificial products, especially if we are unsure on their long-term effects.

Natural products, such as handcrafted soap, are better than products that come off a factory assembly line. The manufacturers of these unique products use research and science to prove the effectiveness of their herbal-based products. For a cleaner and greener planet Earth, go natural!

soapFlu season is now upon us, and everyone is more concerned about staying germ-free. We’ve all heard the advice about washing your hands and properly covering your sneezes, but there are some other precautions that will help ensure your health through the chilly fall and winter months.

The soap you choose when washing your hands has a big impact on how sanitary your cleaning routine is. Bar soaps can sit in unclean and mildew-ridden holders, and who knows how many other people have rubbed their infected hands with them? Liquid soap is a more hygienic option and will prevent you from being contaminated. After you wash your hands, always you the towel to open the door, as the doorknobs are a cesspool of bacteria.
